ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
The Lam Research Challenge is a nationwide advanced systems engineering competition that brings together talented engineering students who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.
Challenge Theme for 2024: Robotics
This make-a-thon aims to recognise and
reward India's best systems engineers.
CHALLENGE STRUCTURE
ROUND 1: (Online) Subjective Assessment
(1000+ teams)
This round tests the understanding of fundamental concepts and applications in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Programming.
ROUND 2: (Online) Practical Skills and Contraption Building
(Top 100 teams)
Participants will engage in hands-on tasks involving component selection, system assembly, coding, and integration. Additionally, you will be required to build a functional contraption as part of the assessment and submit detailed documentation of the same.
ROUND 3: (IISc Bengaluru) Building a Robotic Manipulator
(Top 20-25 teams)
In the final round, participants will design and build a 4/5 Degree of Freedom (DOF) robotic manipulator for material handling, choosing from microcontrollers such as the ESP32, RP2040, STM32FXXX, or Arduino Nano.

WHO CAN APPLY?
APPLICATION CRITERIA
The challenge is open exclusively to engineering students currently enrolled* in an undergraduate and (or) postgraduate program.
Eligible Streams :
• Electrical & Electronics Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Mechatronics
• Robotics
• Electronics & Communication Engineering
• Computer Science Engineering
+ Other relevant engineering streams
Each team must consist of 4 members
No more than one M.Tech student per team
No more than two students of the same engineering stream
* Applications may be disqualified if found violating the rules

Systems Engineering is a multidisciplinary field of engineering that focuses on designing, integrating, and managing complex systems over their life cycles with reliability, efficiency, negligible errors, and minimal rework.

No, each team can consist of a maximum of 4 members. Among them, up to 1 member can be an M.Tech student, while the remaining 3 can be from different engineering disciplines.

Details will be sent to the registered email ID of the team representative a day before the first round (October 4th).

Any engineering stream is eligible, as long as you deem that the skill-set of your team matches the challenge requirements.

Yes, upto Rs. 4000 per team will be reimbursed upon furnishing detailed bills for the same. The amount will be reimbursed within a month after the final round (round 3) of the challenge conclusion provided the bills are submitted before Round 3 commences. For those who submit their bills post Round 3, the reimbursement will be done within 30 days of the bill submission.

Yes, accommodation will be provided at Bengaluru for the 2 days of the challenge.

Yes, travel expenses will be reimbursed, subject to a maximum limit and specific restrictions on the mode of transport. Any team that will take 2 nights or more (by road or rail) to travel to Bengaluru will be reimbursed for flight charges (economy). Teams that will take less than 2 nights of travel by road or rail will be reimbursed for their bus tickets or III AC rail tickets. The reimbursements will be done within 30 days after the final round of the challenge concludes provided the bills are submitted before Round 3 commences. For those who submit their bills post Round 3, the reimbursement will be done within 30 days of the bill submission.
